carnal report which may fall upon them—and thus feed
that natural desire for news, gossip, and even slander,
which is the very element of the carnal mind.

Your tongue is not your own, that you may speak
what you please, and blurt out whatever passes in
the chambers of your heart, without check or fear.

Yes, blessed be God, there is gospel liberty, for
there is no real happiness in religion without it;
but not liberty to sin—not liberty to gratify the
lusts of the flesh—not liberty to act contrary to
the gospel we profess, and the precepts of God’s
Word—for this is not liberty but licentiousness.

In shopping malls across the USA, that largethrone whereSanta Claus sat is still warm, and the Easter Bunny hasalready moved in and taken upshop.I walked through a couple of different malls recently and I watched as the people waited on long lines to have their photos taken with a bespectacled Easter Bunny with large round glasses. I wondered who the person was behind those Easter Bunny costumes, one which looked like ithad seen better days, and probably could have used a good dry cleaning. Is it not interesting how the resurrection of Jesus Christ got somehow entangled with all of this pagan nonsense? Joseph Mizzi of the island nation of Malta has written this excellent primer on the differences between Roman Catholicism and Biblical Christianity. Mizzi was raised in a devout Catholic family, but was taken aback when his brother trusted in Jesus Christ as his Savior by faith alone and left the family religion. Joseph set about to study the Scriptures himself with the aim of persuading his brother to return to Catholicism, but also ended up accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior by faith alone.

This book avoids heavy theological jargon and appeals to the Catholic layperson in a winsome, loving manner. Scripture passages are plentiful. Chapter headings are as follows:

  3. Built Upon Christ
  4. Guilty!
  5. Justified!

This may easily be inferred from the reasons which he annexes to his prohibition. First, it is said in the books of Moses, (Deuteronomy 4:15,) “Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude in the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb, out of the midst of the fire, lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure,” etc. We see how plainly God declares against all figures, to make us aware that all longing after such visible shapes is rebellion against him. Of the prophets, it will be sufficient to mention Isaiah, who is the most copious on this subjects (Isaiah 40:18; 41:7,29; 45:9; 46:5,) in order to show how the majesty…

 Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”

He said to them, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’

“But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’

 “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’
